What’s the difference between a glider and a rocker?
A living room glider is a chair that moves back and forth on a track. The track allows for noiseless and controlled movement for you and your baby. Many of our gliders, like the Shiloh Glider Fabric Chair, also recline and swivel a full 360 degrees.
A living room rocker is a chair with curved legs that allow the chair to tip back and forth. Rockers do not sit on a track like gliders do, so they have a stronger back and forth motion. For a traditional rocker, consider our wingback inspired Thatcher Fabric Rocker.
Should I get a glider or a rocker?
Gliders and rockers are most commonly placed in bedrooms and nurseries but they make a stylish addition to any room. When considering which one to buy, check how much space you have. If your space is more compact, a glider like the Sophie Swivel Glider Recliner may be the better fit.
If you are purchasing furniture for a nursery, choose the chair that is most comfortable, whether it’s a glider or rocker. You’ll be spending a lot of time in the chair, so make sure it is one that feels good to you. If you have the space for it, choosing a glider with a power reclining mechanism does give you greater flexibility, both with your baby and in long-term use.
